MS. JENNIFER HILLS: I am diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which my body doesn't process insulin correctly, which causes me not to ovulate. And my husband was diagnosed with male infertility. He has low sperm count, all sorts of problems there. So Dr. Durso recommended we go straight to IVF with ICSI, which we did. Gail sat down with us, Gail Freeman, and she just went over everything. She was very patient. We did an IVF and we got 12 embryos. We transferred two. Didn't work unfortunately. Then we went to, we preserved the ten remaining embryos, we went to frozen embryo transfer, transferred three. It didn't work as well. So we were going to go for our final frozen embryo transfer and we had four remaining, and thawed them, and whatever survived we were going to transfer. The morning we were leaving to go to the clinic for the transfer, Dr. Durso called us.
MARK: As we were leaving the house.
MS. HILLS: To tell us that our embryos hadn't grown overnight, and so she didn't think that it was wise to transfer the two. So that was cancelled. So we started IVF number two and I didn't respond to the drugs as well, because we were on a less, tried to do a lesser dosage. So we all decided together that we would convert it to an IUI, which we did. And believe it or not I got pregnant. And I actually, we didn't wait to come in for my blood work. I was supposed to come in on a Monday, but on Friday I was just so, I just needed to know. I was going nuts. I took a home pregnancy test, and thinking that it would be negative and that I would just know then and be able to grieve and move on. And it was positive.
And the first person I called was the office, and Lisa answered the phone. I said, Lisa, this is Jennifer Hills. I took a home pregnancy test. And Lisa was like, and? I'm like, and it's positive. And she's like get over here right now. And, come in right now. Get over here. So I dropped everything and I ran, got over here, and everybody was here waiting. Dr. Durso, Gail, and Lisa, and they were all excited for me, and they took my blood. And then Dr. Durso came out with some tests that she, and she's like, give me another sample. And I took another test, and we were you know, I was here for a while, like a half hour just talking and they're just very personable, and just always willing to be patient, and to listen, to answer questions. And so unfortunately, I had a miscarriage, and so we moved on. Started right away again.
MARK: Yeah.
MS. HILLS: And yesterday we had our IUI, our second IUI. So we are on the two week wait now.
MARK: Yep, now we're just hoping for another positive and it sticks around this time.
MS. HILLS: Hopefully this one will work. But we're going to keep trying, and we're going to, I would still come to Dr. Durso, I wish she could just be my doctor forever.
MARK: For everything.
MS. HILLS: For everything. I would come here.
MARK: It is, when you come in it's just like visiting friends. I mean, you want to see these people. It's not like when I, I mean, I've never been to a doctor before where I'm like, pleased to see them. It's just..
MS. HILLS: We're happy to be here.
MARK: Yeah. They're just like; they care for you. It's not just the physical, it's just, I don't want to say spiritual but it's…
MS. HILLS: Emotional.
MARK: --it's your emotional well being they care about. They really care. It's not just a job for them I don't think. It's…
MS. HILLS: They're making families.
MARK: Yeah. They're, I mean, I'm sure they want to see the babies when they're born. I mean, you've seen the pictures on the wall out there, it's a whole experience. It's not just the physical problems, the medical problems that they solve. So.
MS. HILLS: They're a part of our life.
MARK: Yeah.
MS. HILLS: And they would be a part of our child's life.
MARK: Mm hmm.
